Textile Industry Information

1.Due to the impact of the COVID-19 epidemic spread overseas in 2020, the demand in major world consumer markets continues to be sluggish, resulting in a sharp drop in the output of the textile and garment industry from January to May compared with the same period last year. Based on this low base, from January to May 2021, the output of the textile industry showed a significant year-on-year growth, and the domestic sales of the textile and garment industry also achieved a high recovery growth. In the overseas market, Nicaragua’s textile and garment exports to the US market increased by 6.54% in the first quarter of this year compared with the same period of last year, indicating that the vaccination in the US eased the epidemic and led to a rapid rise in the demand for textile products in the US market, benefiting Nicaragua. Cambodia’s exports of ready-to-wear, footwear and travel goods fell 10 per cent year on year in the first quarter of 2021rdam, the Netherlands.

2. As of now, the operating revenue and profit of China textile and garment industry have increased significantly from January to May 2021, which is still lower than the level of the same period in 2019. Vietnam’s textile and garment industry is expected to see a surge in revenue in 2021 compared with 2020, due to a marked recovery in major markets, Vietnamese media reported recently.

3. From January to May 2021, China’s textile yarn, fabric and products export volume increased significantly in the same period of 2020, decreasing by 3.1% year on year, while the cumulative export volume of clothing and clothing accessories increased by 48.3% year on year, both exceeding the level of the same period of 2019. From January to April 2021, China’s textile exports to India increased significantly as the demand of India’s overseas market improved and the import demand of textile yarn, fabric and products increased. In recent years, China’s textile and garment exports to Japan have been declining, but due to the transfer of orders, China’s textile and garment exports to Japan have picked up.

4.The Japanese brand Mizuno and apparel companies World and Cox recently stopped using cotton from Xinjiang due to the US government’s ban on imports of cotton and tomato products from Xinjiang, citing “forced labor”. Vietnamese textile and garment enterprises failed to enjoy the dividend of the main obstacles attributed to the origin of raw materials, called for a solution to the problem of relying on imported fabrics. Turkey’s safeguard measures on textile and garment imports from China are cause for concern. Although Peru has decided not to impose safeguards on imports of clothing, relevant measures for other products also require attention.

5.Since the fourth quarter of 2020, the textile market demand and product gross margin have continued to recover.
